I’ve become one of those crazy ladies that buys baking soda in two pound boxes.
Why? Because I use it constantly! You may think of baking soda as something you use to bake cookies, or to stick in your fridge to keep the nasty smells in check, but it is SO MUCH MORE! Check out all theses amazing uses for baking soda!
+ Face wash. I’ve already told you what an incredible, inexpensive, natural, exfoliating face wash that baking soda makes!
+ Bath soak. Pour one to two cups of baking soda into your bath water for a detoxifying effect. Dry brushing beforehand and combining it with Epsom salts will also increase it’s detoxifying powers.
+ Bath tub and toilet scrub. Forget that toxic Clorox! Swap it out for baking soda for an eco-friendly scouring solution.
+ Deodorizing and cleaning your fridge. I know, everyone and their grandma know to use baking soda inside the fridge to absorb smells, but did you know that it also makes a great cleaner for the inside of your fridge? It’s great for getting rid of stains and smells. Bonus: it won’t contaminate your precious food! Also works amazingly on microwave build-up.
+ Make your flowers last longer. Put a pinch of baking soda and sugar in your vase to make your beautiful blooms last extra long!
+ Deodorizing and cleaning your carpet. Carpet a little stinky? Pour some baking soda over your carpet, let it sit for at least an hour, then vacuum it up. For a little extra perk, add some yummy essential oils to the baking soda before you put it down. Have a stain on your carpet? Make a paste out of the baking soda and rub it into the stain really well. Leave it until it dries, then vacuum it right up! So simple!
+ Clean your cutting board. Scrub your cutting board (especially wooden ones) with baking soda and water to get rid of all the nasty germys!
+ Deodorize your trash can. Have a smelly trash can around? Sprinkle some baking soda on the bottom to keep the stink in check.
+ Fruit and veggie scrub. Just sprinkle a little baking soda and water on a CLEAN sponge, and use it to safely clean your produce before use!
+ Air freshener. I made these adorable air fresheners for everyone for Christmas last year, using lavender and tea tree essential oil.
As you can tell, I’m using baking soda all the time!! It’s so inexpensive (I pay less than $3 for a two pound box), and safe for the environment, that I have no reason not to! These are just a few of the ways that this awesome stuff can be used around your home; the ones that I use it for the most frequently. Happy Saturday, my loves!

Hey Lindsay,
Great list! I’m a huge baking soda fan too and I can’t believe all the cool things you can do with it. I’m thinking about trying your baking soda face wash and apple cider vinegar toner to help me break my dependence on “Acne Free” face wash and toner (the only personal care products I haven’t been able to swap out for green alternatives yet). Wish me luck and thanks for sharing!
