You know what’s awesome about this time of year? Along with about a billion other things, fresh watermelon is in season! I love slicing open a juicy personal-sized watermelon and eating it with a spoon for breakfast.
Another great way to eat this delicious summery fruit? In a smoothie! The combination of watermelon and strawberries in today’s Thirsty Thursday smoothie is so fruity and delightful that I’m pretty sure I could drink one of these just about everyday! Smoothies are also a perfect way to use up watermelons that have accidently been left out too long an have gone a bit mushy.
Ingredients
- 1 cup filtered water
- 1/4 of a personal watermelon
- 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 banana
- 1 T vanilla protein powder
- 1 T ground flax seeds or chia seeds
- 2 large handfuls spinach
Directions
1. Scoop the flesh out of the watermelon shell.
2. Add all ingredients to the blender, and blend until smooth, usually about 30-45 seconds.
Watermelon is mostly water, but it’s also a good source of vitamins A and C. Strawberries are also a great source of vitamin C.
Did you know that vitamin C helps your body absorb iron more effectively?? Yep, it’s true! Combining fruits rich in vitamin C with iron-packed greens like spinach is a great way to build a stronger you, and help prevent iron-deficiency anemia!

Hi Lindsay
That smoothie sounds delicious! I actually just posted a recipe for watermelon salad on my still half-ass blog. I am really scared to announce the address to my friends because I get swamped by very nasty comments every day, mainly porn stuff. I am leaving town and so I know I won’t be able to delete them…and I really don’t want a blog full of sex ads!!
Anyway, go see if you have some extra time. And also, please send another friend request on fb or else send me your last name and I send you one from my side. Hope you are well. I’m starting work at Bright Horizon on monday. Let me know about you. E.
