Codiga Park

Yesterday was my day off this week.  Sometimes I like to spend my days being lazy, sleeping in, and doing nothing but playing video games and watching movies all day.  Sometimes I will spend the whole day working on cleaning the house and listening to music.  Some days I just itch to get out of the house and go exploring somewhere new.

Today was one of the latter days.  Keenan had to be at work in the afternoon, so around noon, we loaded into the car and headed to a new little park that he had discovered the other day.

Codiga Park is wayyy tiny.  It basically consists of a little picnic area, covered by an adorable fake barn, with a short trail down to the Duwamish River.

The park impressed me the most, not with it’s cute little barn, or it’s blatant attempts at “Northwest chic” decor…

but by the fact that it’s actually part of a habitat restoration project!

See all those little pink flags?  They’re little baby trees!

Apparently, this spot in the river is a prime spot for juvenile salmon to hang out after they’re hatched, so the City of Tukwila and the Army Corps of Engineers teamed up to redo the park, and make it a better habitat!  There must have been something good in the water, because a giant flock of seagulls kept flying around and landing on the water.  I’m guessing it was lunchtime.

Looks like a giant post was installed amongst the trees to make a good nesting or perching spot for birds of prey.

The three of us had a great time hanging out on the beach for a bit, enjoying the scenery, watching the seagulls, and letting Arlo run around and smell everything.

It’s hard not to enjoy time at the park.  Especially when the sky looks like this.

I sat on a bench for probably at least five minutes just watching the clouds.  Aaaaamazing!

What outdoor adventures have you been on lately?

Have a good Tuesday!  Don’t forget to enter my giveaways here and here!!!
